Hello world!
Welcome to my FIRST blog. My husband set this up for me as a way to help connect to other home school parents. I hope to share tips and tricks I’ve learned, share about curriculums and creative ideas.
I have 5 children ages 7-19, but am currently only homeschooling my two youngest ones. I really didn’t even think about homeschooling until my two youngest ones were about ready to start school, but the more I learned about the “public” school system, the less I wanted to send them there. Looking back, I wish I had made the decision sooner, but I am happy to report that my 3 older children are doing well, 2 will be graduating this year and the other one next year. They have all had an opportunity to attend college classes through the charter high school they are attending and my oldest daughter will have her EMT Basic certificate by the time she graduates this spring. My oldest son will be moving on to a 4 year college this fall. (He is still not sure “what he wants to be when he grows up”….LOL, but wants to explore his options). My two youngest ones are in the 2nd grade. Even though they are a year apart, it worked out great that I decided to start both of them on the same grade level in Kindergarten. My youngest daughter was definitely ready, but because of her age, had I decided to put them in public school, she would have had to wait another year before starting.
With my two youngest ones, I started off using the Landmark Baptist Curriculum, which I really enjoyed, but because of financial reasons, I had to go to work part time, and so I needed something that required less time in planning, etc. So last year I decided to try the K12 online school. I have really enjoyed it, everything is planned out for me, so I just have to come home from work and start on the lessons for the day.
My husband has been a great support and is currently working with them on their art and science lessons. I am not very artistic (don’t even draw stick people well *laugh*), so that has been very helpful since he is a very creative and artsy person. Science can be a little more time consuming so he helps teach that (he is currently working from home) to free up more time for me to work on the other subjects in the afternoons.
At first I was a little skeptical about using it because we are have strong Christian beliefs, and there are some views that “public” school teaches that I don’t necessarily agree with, but I have found so far, that I have been able to take certain lessons and expand on them with the kids to talk more about our views on what that particular lesson may be teaching and how we agree or disagree with that viewpoint. The biggest thing I think I need right now is to find a good and inexpensive Bible lesson to be able to do with them each day. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
I look forward to the change to be able to share ideas with everyone! Feel free to leave a comment, sign-up to my RSS feed, sign-up for email updates and connect!

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment! I know when my husband first mentioned to me that I should start a blog, I thought he was crazy! The idea was very scary to me, but with help from him and other friends that blog, I decided what the heck, and went for it!
